Highcon files for bankruptcy protection amid delays, tariffs, and regional instability

It has been reported in the news that Highcon Systems, the Israeli-based digital finishing equipment manufacturer known for pioneering digital die-cutting and creasing technology, has filed for bankruptcy protection under Israel’s Chapter 10 Insolvency and Economic Rehabilitation Law. The move comes as the company grapples with a combination of delayed customer orders, geopolitical instability, and rising concerns over international trade tariffs.

Despite demonstrating strong market potential and unveiling a series of innovations at Drupa 2024, Highcon was unable to convert a robust order pipeline—estimated at over $10 million—into cash flow. The delays, compounded by macroeconomic uncertainties and the impact of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, ultimately left the company unable to secure further investment or bridge its funding gap.

In response, the Tel Aviv District Court has appointed Ronen Matry and CPA Omer Serviansky as temporary trustees to oversee the company’s operations, evaluate restructuring options, and protect remaining assets. Highcon has also announced significant workforce reductions, retaining a small core team to continue supporting existing customers and installations.

When asked what will happen to the R&D and future of their drupa previewed ‘Vulcan’ high productivity corrugated die cutting solutions, Bar-Shany said “First priority is to provide existing customers with service and supplies. Under court protection we will try to define path forward for the vast IP and potential sales given dozens of satisfied customers using the Highcon solution”.

Highcon’s bankruptcy filing marks a sobering moment for the digital print industry, highlighting the vulnerabilities of even the most innovative players in the face of external shocks. Whether restructuring efforts will revive the company or result in a broader industry acquisition remains to be seen.
